This is an activist Funny or Die video where a gag happens an average of every 4 seconds. They all culminate into a protest against education budget cuts in California. Why is this video the subject of my rant? Because at 1:09, a young Korean girl starts protesting to Megan in Korean. Because Asian kids are stupid enough to yell at English-only-speakers and expect them to *just understand*. A Caucasian English-speaking girl notes that the Korean assistant teacher got laid off and is not present to translate for the Korean girl. Because that’s how two Asians have always interacted in a classroom. The fobby Asian one helps the white kids comprehend the fobbier Asian one.
And that was it. That was the gag. I’m trying to imagine how the writers pitched that part of the video. “Alright, so the Asian kid does something Asian, and it’ll be SO fucking hilarious!” The result turned out to be as funny as hearing “Eww, you’re Chineeeese. Shut up, you stupid Chinese.” back in first grade. I guess 17 years is not enough for even a little bit of social progress.
